UC Davis marked a significant milestone on June 27 with the opening of Anova Aggie Square, a six-story residential complex located in Sacramento. This development introduces on-campus student housing to the university’s Sacramento campus for the first time. The facility is situated within the Aggie Square innovation district on Stockton Boulevard and welcomed nearly 100 students from various UC Davis programs.
The new apartment complex was developed by GMH Communities in partnership with Wexford Science & Technology. It features 190 fully furnished units and 252 beds, with UC Davis Student Housing and Dining Services leasing 49 units at below-market rates. The remaining units are available to the public, prioritizing UC Davis affiliates.
Anova Aggie Square combines student and residential housing elements with technology and amenities designed to foster a modern live-work environment. Students benefit from flexible leasing terms, in-unit washers and dryers, soundproof working pods, wellness lounges, and communal spaces.
Piri Ackerman, associate dean for Student Affairs and Health Equity at the School of Nursing, described the move-in as both “symbolic” and “transformational.” Sean Muñoz from the School of Medicine highlighted the community-building opportunities provided by living on campus.
First-year medical student Geeta Min chose Anova Aggie Square for its proximity to campus and modern facilities. Her roommate Alyssa Bercasio shared how her father’s kidney transplant at UC Davis Health influenced her decision to pursue medicine.
Anova Aggie Square is part of UC Davis’ broader vision for the Aggie Square innovation district. It plays a role in addressing local housing challenges while enhancing educational access.
