The UCLA baseball team overcame an eight-run deficit in the final three innings to defeat Michigan State, 13-11, and complete a three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon at Jeff Ishbia Field, according to a May 3 announcement.
With this victory, the Bruins (43-4, 24-0 Big Ten) secured at least a share of the Big Ten Conference title and maintained their unbeaten record in league play. The team has now clinched at least a share of the regular-season crown in both of its first two years competing in the conference.
The comeback marked UCLA’s largest since the 2022 Pac-12 Tournament when they rallied from nine runs down against Oregon State. After trailing 10-2 through six innings, UCLA scored six runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eighth to tie the game. In the ninth inning, Aiden Aguayo singled and Dean West walked before Roch Cholowsky delivered a line drive for what would be the go-ahead run. Mulivai Levu added another run with an RBI single.
Easton Hawk recorded his third save of the weekend series and twelfth of the season by closing out Michigan State in the ninth inning. Levu led UCLA’s offense with three hits including his fourteenth home run of the year. Several other players contributed multiple hits as well.
Michigan State had built an early lead behind Parker Picot’s two home runs but could not hold off UCLA’s late surge. Zach Strickland and Hawk combined for scoreless relief appearances that helped preserve UCLA’s advantage once they took it late.
Looking ahead, UCLA is scheduled to travel to Loyola Marymount for a midweek contest on Tuesday, May 5.
