The UCLA track and field teams split their annual dual meet with USC on May 3 at Allyson Felix Field in downtown Los Angeles. The Bruins secured an 87-76 victory on the men’s side but lost to the Trojans in the women’s competition, 94-69.
This result marks the second consecutive year that UCLA’s men have defeated USC in this rivalry meet, a feat last accomplished by the program during the 2016-17 seasons. The Bruins entered this contest following a sweep of both men’s and women’s meets at Drake Stadium in 2025.
Both UCLA squads recorded nine event wins each, including sweeps in several events such as the steeplechase, hurdles, and long jump. Eighteen different athletes contributed to these victories. Aaron Cantu and Terrence Sweetman led individual scoring for UCLA’s men with seven points each through performances across multiple events. Cantu won the steeplechase and placed third in two other races, while Sweetman won triple jump and scored additional points in high jump and pole vault.
Other notable contributors included distance runners Joshua Chu, Jack Falkowski, Arrin Sagiragu, throwers Derek Smith and Xavier Hastenrath for the men—all finishing with six points apiece—and Evie Marheineke, Ella McGillis, Olivia Foody leading scoring for UCLA’s women. The men’s team clinched their win by sweeping first through third place in the final non-relay race of the day—the men’s 3000 meters—led by Henry Coughlan.
Field events began Saturday off-site with hammer and discus competitions before action moved to USC’s campus Sunday. Highlights included Paige Sommers setting a new facility record in women’s pole vault at 4.42 meters (14-6), Sydney Johnson winning a dramatic long jump competition on her final attempt for UCLA’s women, Michael Haugo taking first place among men’s long jumpers with a wind-aided mark of 7.54 meters (24-9), Valentina Fakrogha securing victory in women’s high jump at 1.77 meters (5-9.75), Maya Rush winning javelin despite injury concerns, and Jake Stafford posting strong results across throws disciplines.
This event was UCLA’s last full-team meet of the regular season; select athletes will compete next week at Azusa Pacific’s Last Chance Meet before championship season begins mid-May.
