A Vallejo resident has been indicted on federal charges related to the distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Eric Grant. Marcos Gonzalez-Reyes, 43, was charged after a grand jury returned an indictment that was unsealed on August 20, 2025.
Court documents state that in December 2024, Gonzalez-Reyes used the peer-to-peer software eMule to distribute hundreds of images depicting children engaged in sexually explicit acts. Undercover law enforcement agents received these files over three days. In May 2025, authorities executed a search warrant at his residence in Vallejo and seized electronic devices containing thousands more such images, including those involving toddlers.
The investigation was led by the Solano County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sam Stefanki is prosecuting the case.
“If convicted of distributing child sexual abuse material, Gonzalez-Reyes faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. If convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material, Gonzalez-Reyes faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Any sentence, however, would be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables. The charges are only allegations; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt,” according to information provided by prosecutors.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The program brings together federal, state, and local agencies to pursue offenders and assist victims. More details about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.usdoj.gov/psc.
