Viking announced on May 5 that bookings are now open for its 2028–2029 expedition voyages, which will include new departure dates across popular itineraries in the Arctic, Antarctica, and the Great Lakes.
The announcement highlights expanded opportunities for travelers interested in immersive exploration of remote regions. The new offerings include additional sailings of Viking’s Longitudinal World Cruises, connecting the Great Lakes and Antarctica, as well as the Into the Antarctic Circle itinerary that allows guests to cross into the Antarctic Circle—a milestone among polar explorers.
Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, said: “Our guests are curious travelers who seek meaningful experiences and a deeper connection to the destinations they visit. Our expedition voyages are designed to bring them closer to the natural world through immersive exploration and discovery, alongside scientists and destination experts. We are pleased to offer even more opportunities in the years to come.”
The deployment expands Viking’s presence in polar regions using its Polar Class ships Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris. Each ship accommodates 378 guests in 189 staterooms and is designed specifically for comfort during exploration. The ships feature extensive indoor and outdoor viewing areas intended to enhance scenic experiences.
Viking also announced a Spring Sale available through May 31, offering North American travelers up to 30 percent off fares on select river, ocean, and expedition itineraries from 2026 through 2029. The promotion includes up to free international airfare on certain trips as well as a $25 deposit option for all itineraries.
According to information provided by Viking, it operates a fleet of over 100 ships exploring rivers, oceans, and all seven continents. The company has received more than 450 awards including being rated #1 for Rivers and #1 for Oceans five years consecutively by Condé Nast Traveler readers.
