David Atkins, a Democrat Party official is calling for Trump supporters to undergo deprogramming following the election.
“No seriously...how *do* you deprogram 75 million people? Where do you start? Fox? Facebook? We have to start thinking in terms of post-WWII Germany or Japan. Or the failures of Reconstruction in the South,” Atkins tweeted.
Atkins is serving a four year term after being elected as a Democrat National Convention member to represent California.
Glenn Greenwald, co-founder of The Intercept, said Atkins comments are indicative of the incoming Democrat administration.
“Holy shit. The only thing creepier and more alarming than this tweet is how many times it's been liked and re-tweeted,” Greenwald said of Atkins’ tweet. “If you don't recognize the intense strain of authoritarianism in this new ruling coalition, you see nothing about US politics.”
On his campaign website, Atkins notes he has been involved in the “fight to make the Democratic Party more progressive” since 2004.
