In another landmark move that transcended partisanship, both Republicans and Democrats lauded the approval of SB 87 by the California Legislature, awarding more than $2.6 billion in relief grants to small businesses and non-profit organizations.

Through the leadership of Sens. Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) and Anna Caballero (D-Salinas) who both worked tirelessly on SB 74, the Keep California Working Act, an additional $2.1 billion in economic relief package was approved by Gov. Gavin Newsom—bringing the total coronavirus relief fund to more than $7.6 billion.

“The Keep California Working Act proved that when legislators put aside partisan differences, we can accomplish great things and deliver for the people of California,” Borgeas said. “I would like to personally thank Sen. Anna Caballero and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, members of our staff who worked on the bill, the supporting organizations, and the 61 other legislators who signed on to the Keep California Working Act.”

The SB 87 originated from the SB 74 ("Keep California Working Act") in December when Democratic senators agreed to include some SB 74 provisions in the approved budget bill. Senate Bill 74 is credited with infusing capital investment and keeping California's workforce and businesses afloat.

"This is a moment where we transcended partisanship to deliver for Californians," Borgeas tweeted.
