The ‘Year of the Eggheads’ has officially begun at UC Davis, with the launch of a new microsite dedicated to celebrating the art and legacy of faculty member Robert Arneson and his Egghead sculptures.
The microsite, Eggheads.UCDavis.edu, provides a comprehensive look at the history of each of Arneson’s sculptures, along with a dynamic timeline of his life on campus. Additionally, the site offers visitors the opportunity to explore and shop the new Arneson Egghead Collection.
As part of the celebration, UC Davis is hosting a campuswide event on Thursday, April 4, featuring various special events and discounts across the campus. Attendees can enjoy discounts on merchandise, gaming activities, food items like breakfast burritos, and Egghead-themed desserts at different locations on campus.
Furthermore, the Manetti Shrem Museum will showcase new offerings, including a photo display titled “Aggies with Eggheads” and a lobby exhibit called “Hatched: The Making of Robert Arneson’s Eggheads,” which will feature early clay models of the iconic sculptures. The museum will also introduce a pop-up shop with exclusive Egghead products.
In addition, Shields Library will feature special exhibits highlighting historical information about the Eggheads, including news snippets and photographs of the installation and dedication of Bookhead. The library will also host a jazz ensemble and poetry performance in front of Shields Library, featuring live music and Egghead-inspired poetry by select MFA students.
The day will culminate in a ceremonial lighting of the Eggheads at Bookhead and Eye on Mrak, providing a fitting end to the day's festivities.
Participants are encouraged to RSVP for the campuswide celebration and sign up for the Egghead mailing list to receive updates on future events.
