Isla Vista, Calif. – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has released preliminary figures regarding the recent Deltopia weekend in Isla Vista. According to the Sheriff’s Office, there were a total of 256 citations and 32 arrests made during the event, all of which were misdemeanors.

The weekend, which took place from Friday, April 5, 2024, to Sunday, April 7, 2024, saw varying levels of activity. A report mentioned that the first day of the event was calm due to rain and wind. However, the following day experienced a significant increase in attendance, particularly concentrated at residences along the ocean side of Del Playa. This surge in attendees led to a rise in emergency medical calls, primarily related to acute alcohol intoxication.

Law enforcement worked collaboratively with emergency services to address the medical needs of the event-goers. Additionally, authorities enforced ordinances related to illegal parties, resulting in 13 citations being issued. Notably, there were no incidents of cliff falls or fentanyl overdose fatalities reported during the weekend.

The Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating two separate reports of rape that occurred during Deltopia. They emphasized the availability of resources for survivors of sexual assault, encouraging individuals to seek support from organizations like Standing Together to End Sexual Assault (STESA).

In closing, the Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude towards the various community partners and first responders who assisted during the event, including Santa Barbara County Fire, American Medical Response, and University of California Police, among others.
