Tom Schutzius has recently joined the faculty as a mechanical engineering expert. Holding a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Schutzius brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role.

Schutzius' research interests lie in the realm of experimental investigations on how surfaces and bulk materials can be engineered to enhance micro/nanoscale and interfacial transport. He states, "Through experimental investigations, we explore how surfaces and bulk materials can be (nano)engineered to enhance micro/nanoscale and interfacial transport, and based on our findings, we develop and fine-tune materials and devices for application at the water-energy nexus."

Aside from his academic pursuits, Schutzius also shared a fun fact about himself, saying, "Chasing after my two children — a bit more difficult here with the hills! :)" This personal touch adds a human element to his professional profile.

With his background and dedication to advancing the field of mechanical engineering, Tom Schutzius is poised to make significant contributions to the academic community and beyond.
