California Attorney General Bonta has made a significant announcement regarding a recent case involving a sex offender in Citrus Heights. Christopher Campbell, a 41-year-old individual, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for the possession of child pornography. This sentencing follows Campbell's arrest during an undercover operation aimed at combating child sexual predators within Sacramento County.

Attorney General Bonta emphasized the importance of holding those who harm children accountable, stating, "Let this conviction serve as a warning to those who harm children: You will be held accountable." He also expressed gratitude towards the Special Agents and partners involved in the operation, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the regional Human Trafficking and Sexual Predator Apprehension teams.

The joint operation conducted by the California Department of Justice, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation led to the discovery of Campbell contacting an undercover agent to engage in sexual misconduct. Further investigation revealed that Campbell, a registered sex offender, possessed a significant amount of child pornography on his electronic devices and cloud storage accounts.

Campbell's sentencing to 14 years in federal prison was a result of an enhanced statutory penalty due to his prior conviction related to sexual abuse involving a minor. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California.

The Human Trafficking and Sexual Predator Apprehension Team's mission is to disrupt and dismantle human trafficking and child exploitation organizations through a comprehensive and collaborative approach. The program focuses on investigating and recovering victims of forced labor and sexual exploitation, working closely with law enforcement agencies to combat domestic and transnational criminal organizations.

As Attorney General Bonta highlighted the importance of protecting the most vulnerable Californians, the sentencing of Christopher Campbell serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation and hold offenders accountable for their actions.
