California Attorney General Rob Bonta led a roundtable discussion in San Jose alongside gun violence prevention leaders to address the pressing issue of gun violence. The roundtable aimed to foster collaboration and community-driven solutions to eliminate gun violence and protect survivors.

Attorney General Rob Bonta emphasized the importance of community involvement in preventing gun violence, stating, “Preventing gun violence must begin in our communities by strengthening relationships and fostering an environment of support and collaboration.” He highlighted the state's efforts in defending gun safety laws, enforcing regulations, and partnering with local violence prevention experts to disrupt cycles of violence.

During the discussion, Executive Director of United Playaz, Rudy Corpuz, expressed, "One bullet from one gun can destroy mankind. The solutions are in community. It Takes The Hood To Save The Hood." This sentiment was echoed by Philip Rodriguez, CEO and Founder of New Hope for Youth, who highlighted the detrimental impact of the gang lifestyle on youth and families, emphasizing the need for a better way of life.

Associate Director of RYSE, Kanwarpal Dhaliwali, called for investment in communities most affected by gun violence and the establishment of holistic and healing spaces to address the underlying causes of violence.

Attorney General Bonta's proactive approach to addressing gun violence includes the establishment of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, which focuses on developing strategies to reduce firearm-related harm and supporting innovative programs across the state. Recent data reports have highlighted California's success in reducing gun violence rates and emphasized the importance of community-based efforts in protecting survivors and preventing further violence.

In addition to defending California's gun laws, Attorney General Bonta is advocating for increased accountability in the firearm industry and supporting legislation to make long-term investments in community-based violence prevention programs and victim services. The ongoing efforts aim to strengthen federal laws against ghost guns and uphold California's laws to prevent gun violence.
