State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond has announced the recipients of the 2024 California Classified School Employees of the Year. Thurmond expressed his admiration for the dedication of these individuals, stating, "My heartfelt congratulations go to these outstanding employees for going the extra mile to step up and support California students so they can continue to learn."
The annual Classified School Employees of the Year program recognizes outstanding classified school employees in various categories. This year's winners were chosen from 134 nominations statewide and will be honored at a luncheon in Sacramento on May 23, 2024.
Among the honorees is Aries Lewis from the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District, who plays a crucial role in fostering positive connections between schools and the community. Jason Cheeseman from the Tracy Unified School District was recognized for his commitment to keeping campuses clean and safe. Connie Flores from Garden Grove High School was acknowledged for her culinary expertise and dedication to providing over 1,000 meals a day.
Other awardees include Nachole Yaley, Sara Sanchez, Isaiah Joiner, Joseph Federico, Rinat Fried, and Joshua Crotts, who were praised for their exemplary work in various school departments.
For their exceptional contributions, Lewis and Cheeseman have been nominated for the Recognizing Inspiring Schools Award (RISE), a national honor that recognizes classified school employees who go above and beyond to promote quality education and ensure student success.
The Classified School Employees of the Year program is presented in partnership with the Classified School Employees Association, and California's Classified School Employee Week will be celebrated from May 15–25, 2024.
