SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom has officially declared May 2024 as "Small Business Month" in the State of California. In a proclamation issued today, Governor Newsom highlighted the vital role of small businesses in California's economy, stating, "California’s more than 4.1 million small businesses – the most of any state – embody the entrepreneurial spirit that drives the economy of the Golden State."

Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of supporting all Californians in their entrepreneurial endeavors, stating, "For our economy to maintain its strength, we must ensure that all Californians – no matter who they are or where they come from – can pursue their dreams to start, manage, and grow resilient businesses in the Golden State."

The proclamation recognizes the significant contributions of small businesses to California's economy, noting that these businesses create two-thirds of net new jobs, build wealth, innovate to solve global problems, and define main streets across local communities. California's small businesses employ over 7 million people, accounting for nearly half of the state's private sector workforce.

Furthermore, the proclamation highlights California's leadership in business startups, venture capital investment, manufacturing output, and innovation. Governor Newsom also acknowledged the state's efforts to support small businesses through programs like the Small Business Technical Assistance Program and the Accelerate California Inclusive Innovation Hubs.

In conclusion, Governor Newsom expressed his commitment to ensuring the accessibility of the California Dream to all, stating, "This month, we recognize the tremendous contributions of our small businesses, as well as the importance of our ongoing work to support their success and make the California Dream accessible to all."

Governor Newsom's proclamation officially designates May 2024 as "Small Business Month" in California, recognizing and celebrating the resilience and innovation of the state's small business community.
