State Law Enforcement Makes 500+ Arrests, Removes Nearly 700 Pounds of Fentanyl as Part of San Francisco Operation

Governor Gavin Newsom, alongside San Francisco Mayor London Breed, announced the success of a joint public safety partnership with state and local law enforcement agencies in San Francisco, which has resulted in over 500 arrests and the seizure of nearly 700 pounds of fentanyl in the past year.

In a statement, Governor Newsom highlighted the progress made in improving public safety in San Francisco, stating, “Over the last year, we have made significant, measurable progress for safety in San Francisco.” Mayor London Breed expressed gratitude for Governor Newsom's support in combating drug markets, emphasizing that anyone selling fentanyl in the city will face arrest and prosecution.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins commended Governor Newsom for providing resources to disrupt drug markets, stating that their collaborative efforts are holding dangerous drug dealers accountable. San Francisco Police Department Chief Bill Scott thanked the California Highway Patrol for their assistance in dismantling drug markets and removing a significant amount of fentanyl from the streets.

CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee highlighted the importance of partnerships in combating crime, while California National Guard Major General Matthew Beevers praised the tireless efforts of service members in combating the rise of fentanyl in San Francisco.

The operations in San Francisco are part of a larger effort by the Newsom Administration to improve public safety throughout California. The success in reducing violent crime and property crime in San Francisco reflects the collaborative work of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
