First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom is set to visit Los Angeles this week to engage in discussions surrounding youth mental health and farm to school programs. The First Partner will be hosting events at two local schools in collaboration with various organizations.
On Monday, a town hall discussion will be held in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District, California Partners Project, and the Child Mind Institute. The event aims to shed light on the complex realities of youth mental health for parents, caregivers, and young individuals. This initiative coincides with the start of Mental Health Awareness Month and Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week.
Among the notable figures participating in the discussion are Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, journalist Lisa Ling, California Health and Human Services Agency Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly, Dr. Dave Anderson from the Child Mind Institute, and youth mental health leader Khoa-Nathan Ngo.
Later in the week, the focus will shift to a California Farm to School event where the First Partner will collaborate with local and federal partners. More information regarding this event will be provided in the coming days.
Media coverage of Monday's event is limited to credentialed media only, and interested parties are required to RSVP by emailing govpressoffice@gov.ca.gov before 12 PM on Monday, May 6, 2024.
