Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement on the passing of San Quentin Rehabilitation Center Correctional Officer Frank Salas. The governor expressed his and his wife's deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Salas, stating: "As we remember Correctional Officer Frank Salas for his passionate and professional demeanor, Jennifer and I offer our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and co-workers during this time. We are grateful for his years of service to the people of California.”
Officer Salas passed away due to a medical emergency while on duty at the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center on May 12, 2024. At 68 years old, he had dedicated nearly three decades of his life to serving in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since 1995. He spent all these years at the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center.
Officer Salas is survived by his wife and son. In recognition of his service, flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space will be flown at half-staff in honor of Officer Salas.
