On May 6, a group known as UC Davis Popular University for the Liberation of Palestine (UCD PULP) initiated an encampment on the Quad, mirroring similar actions on campuses nationwide. This article will provide updates and statements from the university concerning its response to this encampment.
As of Wednesday, May 15, unaffiliated demonstrators led a march through six campus buildings, temporarily entering classrooms in some instances. University leaders are currently gathering more information and plan to address any related concerns.
Students have been directed to a website where they can learn more about their rights and responsibilities pertaining to Freedom of Expression.
There have been no arrests connected to the encampment or counter-demonstrations as of May 15. While there have been several tense moments requiring security personnel's intervention, students, security staff, and others have promptly de-escalated these situations.
The university has stated that upon receiving a complaint of offensive behavior, it immediately contacts the affected parties to offer support and resources. The allegations are then reviewed under the university’s anti-discrimination policy.
