On May 13, leaders from UC Davis convened with students representing the PULP (Popular University for the Liberation of Palestine) encampment located on the Memorial Union Quad. The campus authorities expressed their appreciation for the students' efforts in maintaining a peaceful and safe environment within the encampment, while also addressing concerns about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The university leaders characterized the dialogue as productive and affirmed their commitment to continue engaging with students on the issues they are raising.
As previously stated by Chancellor May on May 6, UC Davis will not impose disciplinary actions on students for exercising speech protected by the First Amendment. He acknowledged that such expressions may cause distress or inconvenience to some members of the campus community. However, he reiterated that UC Davis remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and welcoming campus environment for individuals from all backgrounds.
