Governor Newsom announces new appointments to state boards

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today announced several reappointments to various state boards and commissions.

James De La Torre, of Altadena, has been reappointed to the Paramedic Disciplinary Review Board. De La Torre has served on the board since 2023 and is a physician at Emergent Medical Associates. He holds degrees from Harvard Medical School and the University of Southern California. This position does not require Senate confirmation and offers a compensation of $100 per diem. De La Torre is a Democrat.

Jane Kang, of Oakland, has also been reappointed to the Paramedic Disciplinary Review Board. Kang has been an H-3 Level II Paramedic at the San Francisco Fire Department since 2014. This position does not require Senate confirmation and provides a compensation of $100 per diem. Kang is a Democrat.

David Konieczny, of Santa Clarita, continues his service on the Paramedic Disciplinary Review Board. Konieczny has been Operations Manager at McCormick Ambulance since 2020 and held various roles in emergency medical services prior to that. This position does not require Senate confirmation and offers $100 per diem in compensation. Konieczny is a Democrat.

Nick Boyd, of Spring Valley, remains on the Board of Behavioral Sciences where he has served since 2023. Boyd currently works as Director of Clinical Training for Counseling at VA San Diego Healthcare System and holds multiple academic qualifications including a Ph.D. from the University of the Cumberlands. This position requires Senate confirmation with a compensation rate of $100 per diem. Boyd is a Democrat.

Christopher Jones, from Santa Clarita, retains his role on the Board of Behavioral Sciences after serving since 2020. Jones owns Dynamic Interventions Inc., and has worked as a school psychologist across various institutions since 1997. He is President-Elect of the California Association of School Psychologists. This appointment requires Senate confirmation with compensation set at $100 per diem. Jones is a Republican.

Hemesh Patel, based in Huntington Beach, will continue his tenure on the Osteopathic Medical Board of California where he has served since 2020. Patel practices as a Family Physician and Obesity Medicine Specialist with Southern California Permanente Medical Group among other roles in medical governance and education committees nationally recognized certifications in family medicine and obesity medicine among others this post doesn’t require Senate confirmation but compensates him with $100 per diem Patel aligns politically as democrat
