California DOJ investigates off-duty LAPD officer-involved shooting under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating a shooting involving an off-duty Los Angeles Police officer. The incident, which occurred in Ontario, California on May 30, 2024, resulted in the death of one individual.

The investigation is being conducted under Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506). Following the officer-involved shooting (OIS), DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team began their inquiry as mandated by AB 1506. Upon completion, the findings will be reviewed independently by DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division.
