On July 15, 2024, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating and will independently review an officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred on July 13, 2024, in Los Angeles. The incident, which resulted in the death of one individual, took place around 10:24 p.m. and involved the Los Angeles Police Department.
Upon becoming aware of the incident, DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team initiated an investigation in accordance with Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506). Once the investigation is complete, it will be handed over to DOJ's Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.
