California creates over 100k jobs in first half of 2024

During the first six months of 2024, California created 107,100 jobs – more than doubling the number of jobs created during the same period last year.

SACRAMENTO – Bringing California’s job expansion to its 50th month, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the state created 22,500 jobs in June 2024.

“California continues to lead the nation’s economy and create good jobs throughout the state. Just this year, the state created over 107,000 jobs – more than doubling what we accomplished in the same time period last year,” said Governor Gavin Newsom.

In June, California added 22,500 jobs, bringing the total number of jobs created since April 2020 to 3,122,500. The state’s unemployment rate held steady at 5.2 percent last month. Seven of California's eleven industry sectors gained jobs in June.

California is home to the most Fortune 500 companies in the country and has seen travel spending reach an all-time high of $150.4 billion. The state hosts a significant portion of leading AI companies and high-impact research institutions. Additionally, it ranks first in new business starts, venture capital funding access, manufacturing output, high-tech industries, and agriculture.
