American First Legal (AFL) has announced "a multi-front investigation" into Kamala Harris and her time working in the California state government from 1990 to 2017 in positions including District Attorney and Attorney General.
“It is absolutely crucial that the public has access to the facts about Kamala Harris’ time in California government," AFL Vice President Dan Epstein said. "Each step up the ladder of her career appears marked by improprieties or scandal. America First Legal will aggressively probe her former offices and fight to ensure the truth reaches the American people.”
The seven investigations include alleged failure to comply with federal privacy laws by requiring charitable organizations to file forms with the IRS that included copies of donors who gave over $5000, alleged failure to enforce federal immigration laws by opposing the Secure Communities program, "which required local authorities to detain criminal suspects for deportation if they’re illegal aliens," and alleged failure to pursue equal justice by not seeking the death penalty for a convicted murderer who shot a San Francisco police officer.
AFL also brings up potential unreported conflicts of interest due to a romantic relationship, a lack of action or reporting after evidence of misconduct was found inside Orange County jails of deputies misusing informants for year, and a secondary failure to address and possibly covering up of a misconduct situation after a claim that state's prosecutors had falsified a transcription of a defendant's confession was dismissed by Harris.
The investigations also request further information on investigations done by the California Fair Political Practices Commission on potential violations of political donations regulations. While no violations were found, AFL reports "concern" over the investigations and looks to "the public is educated" about the findings.
Harris was elected as the first female Vice President in 2020 alongside President Joe Biden. She was recently slated as the new Democrat candidate for the upcoming presidential election when Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her in a July 21 post on X. Before being elected as Vice President, Harris served as the District Attorney of San Francisco, the Attorney General of California, and as a U.S. Senator from California.
