Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement on the inauguration of Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum.

"Jennifer and I warmly congratulate President Claudia Sheinbaum on her historic inauguration. Her swearing-in marks a pivotal moment, not only for Mexico but for women and girls around the world, and presents a new opportunity to further deepen the strong and enduring ties between California and our southern neighbor," said Newsom.

He emphasized the shared history, cultural connections, and economic partnership between California and Mexico. "Guided by our shared history, cultural connections, and robust economic partnership, we look forward to collaborating with President Sheinbaum’s administration to tackle common challenges, advance climate collaboration, promote trade, and expand opportunities for the people of both Mexico and California."

Newsom reiterated his congratulations in Spanish: "Jennifer y yo felicitamos cordialmente a la Presidenta de México Claudia Sheinbaum por su histórica toma de posesión. Su investidura marca un momento clave, no sólo para México sino para las mujeres y niñas de todo el mundo y presenta una nueva oportunidad para profundizar aún más los fuertes y duraderos lazos entre California y México."

He added that they are guided by their shared history and cultural connections: "Guiados por nuestra historia compartida, conexiones culturales y una robusta alianza económica, esperamos colaborar con la administración de la Presidenta Sheinbaum para abordar desafíos comunes, continuar y aumentar nuestra colaboración en materia de cambio climático, promover el comercio y ampliar las oportunidades para la población de México y California."
