California DOJ investigates Bakersfield police shooting under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Bakersfield, California. The incident occurred on October 2, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., resulting in the death of one individual.

The investigation is being carried out under Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), which mandates independent reviews of such incidents. Following notification by local authorities, the DOJ's California Police Shooting Investigation Team began its work in accordance with AB 1506 guidelines.

Once the investigation is complete, findings will be submitted to the DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for an independent review.
