With the upcoming November 5, 2024, General Election, California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber is reminding voters about their rights. She emphasized the importance of reviewing the Voter Bill of Rights to ensure a smooth voting process.
“Californians should review the Voter Bill of Rights before heading to the polls to ensure a smooth voting experience,” said Secretary Weber. “I urge voters to take the time to know their rights before heading to the polls.”
The Voter Bill of Rights is included in the Voter Information Guide sent to registered households and will be displayed at polling locations. It outlines key rights such as voting even if one's name is not on the list at their polling place by using a provisional ballot, voting if still in line when polls close, and casting a secret ballot without interference.
Voters can request a new ballot if they make a mistake and have not yet cast it. They can also drop off completed vote-by-mail ballots at any polling location or vote center.
Assistance is available for those needing help at polling stations, including asking questions about procedures and watching election processes. Materials are provided in multiple languages where necessary.
Voters are encouraged to report illegal or fraudulent activities either directly to election officials or through hotlines provided by the Secretary of State’s Office. The hotline numbers cater to various languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Tagalog, Thai, Vietnamese as well as TTY/TDD services.
The Voter Bill of Rights is accessible online in ten languages. An informational video from the Secretary of State's office further explains these rights.
Voters can verify their registration status online and track their ballots via alerts through designated websites. A comprehensive list of drop box locations and information on county elections offices are also available online.
Key deadlines and dates for this election cycle are listed on official state websites.
