Two UC Davis teams are confirmed for postseason play, while a third team is likely to join them. The men's soccer team secured the Big West Championship last week, earning an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. The women's volleyball team will compete in the Big West tournament next week after finishing first in their conference. Meanwhile, the football team is expected to make it to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs. Currently ranked fourth, they anticipate this weekend's Causeway Classic against Sacramento State and await the FCS Selection Show.
The men's soccer team will begin their NCAA tournament journey on Thursday, November 21, facing off against the University of San Diego at 7 p.m. This marks their fourth Division I NCAA Tournament appearance under Head Coach Dwayne Shaffer. Their previous appearance was in 2019 when they hosted Louisville in the second round. A victory on Thursday would lead them to a match against Duke in Durham, N.C., on Sunday, November 24.
The women's volleyball team remains at the top of their conference as they prepare for two final regular-season home games: one at 6 p.m. on Thursday against UC Santa Barbara and another at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Cal Poly. After these matches, they will head to Irvine for the Big West Tournament from November 27-30.
Despite a recent loss to Montana State, UC Davis' football team can still share the Big Sky Championship with a win over Sacramento State and if Montana State loses to Montana next weekend. The Aggies hold second place in the Big Sky Conference and will play Sacramento State on Saturday at 2 p.m., with FCS bracket announcements set for Sunday.
