The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding the upcoming Halloween weekend in Isla Vista. The Sheriff's Office is working with community stakeholders and partner agencies to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the celebrations. They have developed a flexible operations plan that adjusts staffing as needed to manage safety and security effectively.

Garrett TeSlaa, station Lieutenant for the Isla Vista Foot Patrol, stated, “The Sheriff’s Office is looking forward to a safe and enjoyable Halloween weekend for Isla Vista residents. We’d like to encourage everyone to celebrate safely and ‘keep it local’ and remind everyone that existing laws – particularly those related to alcohol and noise remain in effect despite the holiday.”

Section 6-70.01 of the Santa Barbara County Code addresses amplified music during specific periods, including Halloween weekend. It prohibits amplified or live music audible from residences or businesses within certain boundaries in Isla Vista from October 26th to November 4th between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m., unless it is part of permitted festivals or concerts. Violations are considered infractions.

For minor infractions, the Sheriff’s Office will offer its Restorative Justice program. This voluntary program involves attending a two-hour presentation on safety in Isla Vista and completing an hour of community service. Participants who complete these requirements will have their fines waived, and citations will not appear on their criminal records.

In case first responders need to use barricades for re-routing or limiting access to certain areas, information will be shared with the media and public via Twitter accounts @SBSOPIO and @SBSheriff. A recap of activities is planned for release early next week as part of efforts to celebrate Halloween safely with residents.
