Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day volunteering in Los Angeles to support survivors of recent wildfires. The couple joined efforts at Project Angel Food, a nonprofit organization that annually provides 1.5 million medically tailored meals across the Los Angeles region, including specific aid for wildfire survivors.
The Governor emphasized California's commitment to helping communities affected by wildfires, encouraging residents to contribute time or resources through California Volunteers. "The best of California is on display here in Los Angeles," said Governor Newsom. "Thousands of Californians joining hand-in-hand to help total strangers who just lost everything to this firestorm."
First Partner Siebel Newsom highlighted the importance of community support during crises: "In times of crisis, Californians always step up to support one another with love, compassion, and service."
Richard Ayoub, CEO of Project Angel Food, praised the Governor and First Partner's participation: “It was truly inspiring to see them roll up their sleeves and actively participate in our vital work.”
Additionally, the couple visited the First Baptist Church of Pasadena to meet with Latino and faith community leaders regarding the Eaton Fire's impact on Altadena.
Californians affected by wildfires can access resources at CA.gov/LAfires or apply for disaster assistance online or via FEMA services. Governor Newsom has issued several executive orders aimed at aiding recovery efforts, including tax relief measures and fast-tracking housing solutions.
These actions are part of a broader initiative by Governor Newsom to provide $2.5 billion in funding for emergency response and recovery efforts in Los Angeles County.
