Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several appointments to various boards and authorities in California. Gabrielle Santoro, from Sacramento, has been appointed as Chief Deputy Director at the Emergency Medical Services Authority. Santoro has been with the California Department of Finance since 2016, holding multiple roles including Principal Program Budget Analyst III. She holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Brandeis University. This position does not require Senate confirmation, and her compensation is set at $178,232. Santoro is affiliated with the Democratic Party.

James Yu, based in Fremont, has been reappointed to the Dental Board of California where he has served since 2018. Yu operates his dental practice James K. Yu DDS since 1984 and has also practiced acupuncture since 2008. He hosts a radio talk show on AM 1450 and owns the Chinese Today Radio Station since 2015. Yu is involved with numerous professional associations including the American Dental Association and the California Acupuncture Association. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry along with Master’s degrees in Acupuncture and Medical Tai Chi from the University of East-West Medicine. The position does not require Senate confirmation, offering $100 per diem compensation. Yu is a Republican.

Michael Long from San Francisco will continue his role on the Dental Hygiene Board of California where he began serving in 2023. Long works as a Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice with Michael J. Perona DDS and Paul-Ryan Lake DDS since 2022 and serves as Clinical Faculty at Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry since 2021. He is active in several professional organizations such as the California Dental Hygienists Association Foundation and American Academy for Oral Systemic Health. Long holds a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from Foothill College; this appointment also does not require Senate confirmation with $100 per diem compensation provided to him as well.
