The California Secretary of State's office conducted a randomized alphabet drawing to establish the order of candidates' names on the ballot for the March 4, 2025, General Law City Elections. The drawing took place in Sacramento, California.

The sequence resulting from the draw is as follows: Y, K, X, O, U, V, A, D, R, H, S, J, N, Z, M, I, G, F, P, C, T, W, L, E, B and Q. This order will determine how candidates' names appear on the ballot. It applies first to last names and then to first and middle names if necessary. For instance, if two candidates have last names starting with 'C', such as Campbell and Carlson; their placement will depend on subsequent letters based on this order.

This procedure was carried out by staff at the Elections Division of the Secretary of State’s office in accordance with Elections Code section 13112. Letters were drawn in a lottery-style process with members of the press observing virtually.

Secretary Shirley N. Weber stated: "Today’s randomized alphabet drawing was held in compliance with Elections Code section 13112."
