Governor Newsom announces key appointments across multiple state departments

Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a series of appointments across various departments and commissions. Stephanie Dougherty, based in Sacramento, will serve as Director at the Office of Traffic Safety. Dougherty has been with the California State Transportation Agency since 2016 as Deputy Secretary of Transportation Safety and Enforcement. Her past roles include positions at the Department of Motor Vehicles and Blue Shield of California.

Kelsey Carter, also from Sacramento, is appointed Chief of Administration in the Office of Legislative Affairs at the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Carter has been part of this department since 2008 in various capacities, most recently as Staff Services Manager II.

Genevie Candelaria from Long Beach takes on the role of Superintendent of Correctional Education at the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. She previously served as Assistant Chief of Education since 2020.

Allison S. Joe will become Deputy Secretary of Equity and Workforce at the California State Transportation Agency. Joe was Senior Advisor to Mayor Darrell Steinberg earlier this year and a lecturer at UC Davis since 2017.

Debra Gore from Oakland joins the Board of Trustees for the State Bar of California. She is currently President and CEO at The Greenlining Institute, a position she has held since 2019.

Ruben Mancillas, based in Long Beach, is appointed to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. He has been a Special Education teacher with ABC Unified School District since 2000.

Danette Brown from Walnut is reappointed to the same commission where she has served since 2022. She works as an instructional coach for La Habra City School District.

Michael de la Torre from Long Beach continues his service on the Commission on Teacher Credentialing where he started in 2021 while teaching for Los Angeles Unified School District since 1991.

Jose Manuel Cardenas from Modesto remains with the commission too, serving there since 2021 alongside his role as a K-12 school counselor in Stockton Unified School District.

Love Adu from Cypress joins the California Community College Board of Governors. Her recent roles include being a Voters Choice Act Ambassador for California's Secretary of State office among others.

Ricardo De La Fuente returns to his position on this board where he began serving earlier this year; he manages American International Enterprises Inc., operating there since 2014.

Adrienne Brown from Long Beach also retains her spot on this board having joined it last year while working within Los Angeles Community College District faculty since 2013.
