California certifies results of November general election

Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., has officially certified the results of the California General Election held on November 5, 2024. The election saw participation from 16,140,044 Californians. Of these voters, 13,034,378 chose to vote by mail while 3,105,666 cast their ballots at designated voting locations.

The voter turnout for this election was recorded at 71.43% of registered voters. This figure shows a decrease compared to previous elections: in 2020 the turnout was 80.67%, in 2016 it was 75.27%, and in 2012 it stood at 72.36%.

When considering the eligible voting age population, the turnout percentage for this year was noted as 59.97%. In comparison, the figures were higher in past years with 70.88% in 2020 and slightly lower figures of around mid-50s to high-50s percentages in earlier years such as 2016 and before.

The certification marks an official conclusion to the electoral process for this cycle.
