California Attorney General Rob Bonta has expressed the state's readiness to enforce Governor Gavin Newsom's recent executive order concerning unsolicited property offers by predatory buyers. The order is aimed at protecting homeowners in areas affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.
In a statement, Attorney General Bonta emphasized the importance of supporting Californians impacted by the wildfires and condemned those who exploit such crises. "Californians who have been affected by the Los Angeles wildfires need our help, and people across the state and country have been stepping up to lend a hand," he said. He warned against taking advantage of vulnerable individuals during these times, stating, "Let me be crystal clear: if you target vulnerable Californians who have not said they want to sell, we will investigate you and we will hold you accountable."
The executive order aims to give homeowners relief from unsolicited low-ball offers for their properties in fire-affected regions. Bonta encouraged anyone receiving such offers to report them via his office's website. "Taking advantage of our families as they are grieving and processing their losses will not be tolerated," he asserted.
Attorney General Bonta also expressed gratitude towards Governor Newsom for his prompt actions in response to the wildfire crisis.
