California Attorney General Rob Bonta has aligned with a coalition of 17 attorneys general, urging Congress to maintain the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The coalition highlighted the IRA's significant contributions to the nation's economy, energy resources, and infrastructure through a letter sent to congressional leaders. Enacted in 2022, the IRA has provided substantial benefits across the country by offering tax credits, incentives, and grant programs aimed at strengthening domestic energy security and reducing energy costs.

Attorney General Bonta stated, "The IRA is not just an investment in our economy, it is an investment in the future of our nation. From creating good-paying jobs to strengthening energy security, this transformative law tackles some of the most pressing issues of our time while lowering costs for Americans across this country."

The coalition emphasizes that repealing the IRA would be detrimental to national interests. They argue that the legislation continues to bring billions in private investments into communities known for energy production and manufacturing. In its first two years alone, private investments in clean energy and infrastructure have reportedly surpassed public funding by five- to six-fold.

The attorneys general stress that many benefits from the IRA will unfold over time as its programs work synergistically. Any repeal or reduction could negatively impact domestic energy security and economic progress. The coalition urges Congress to preserve the entire legislation during upcoming budget discussions.

Attorney General Bonta's appeal is supported by his counterparts from Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

A copy of their letter is publicly available for review.
