California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber have confirmed the resignation of three former members of the Orosi Public Utilities District (OPUD) Board of Directors. Reynaldo Rivas, Maria C. Gonzalez, and Johnny Sandoval, who ran for reelection in November 2024 but were not successful, have agreed to vacate their positions.
The decision follows a letter sent by Attorney General Bonta and Secretary of State Weber reminding them of their obligation to leave office. The resignations were completed by the deadline set by both officials.
Attorney General Bonta stated, “From the White House to a local community water board, the will of the people must always be respected. I appreciate that Mr. Rivas, Ms. Gonzalez, and Mr. Sandoval decided to do the right thing and step down from their positions on the OPUD Board.” He added that this allows duly elected members to address pressing community issues while emphasizing ongoing efforts to protect election integrity.
Secretary of State Weber expressed satisfaction with the outcome: “I am pleased that the rule of law has prevailed and that voters of the Orosi Public Utility District will be heard.”
