The campus will test a new feature of the WarnMe emergency notification system on January 29 at noon. This update includes posting WarnMe and Aggie Alert messages to a new webpage, which links to existing information sources and resources for emergencies. These resources include the campus News & Information page, messages from the chancellor and provost, and details about campus safety and emergency services.

Emergency officials are urging employees and students to add their personal email addresses and mobile numbers to the WarnMe system, allowing up to five contacts for each method. This ensures they receive timely information about emergencies that pose immediate threats to life and safety. The same contact information is used for Aggie Alert messages, which notify recipients about events that may disrupt normal activities around Davis campus facilities.

WarnMe and Aggie Alert messages are sent via email and text to those with a ucdavis.edu email address. They are also posted on the Everbridge Mobile App, as well as UC Davis’ official X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook accounts.

Benton Best, the campus emergency manager, emphasized the importance of the new webpage for the extended UC Davis community, including parents, vendors, visitors, and alumni. The webpage allows anyone, including non-subscribers or text-only subscribers of the emergency notification system, to view both text and email message content. Emails can contain more detailed information due to fewer character limitations compared to text messages.

“Critical safety information, actions to take and updates can be made immediately available and accessible, not only to our entire Aggie family but also to others who want information,” Best stated.

Students can update their WarnMe contact details on the main WarnMe website; however, changes made here do not update other university records. Students should also update their University Registrar records separately. Parents, vendors, or others without a UC Davis email address can subscribe by texting UCDALERTS to 888777.

The Everbridge mobile app is available for those with a UC Davis email address (excluding accounts linked with UC Davis Health). It is especially useful for users with international phone numbers since WarnMe does not send texts internationally. The app offers additional features customized for UC Davis.

The upcoming test on January 29 is one of three scheduled during the academic year. It will send notifications via email and text while posting content on the new webpage, Everbridge Mobile App, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook accounts. The Sacramento campus will conduct its own WarnMe test message on the same day.
