The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has announced a significant investment of $1 billion in transportation infrastructure projects. This funding aims to address mobility challenges and enhance the resilience of California's highway system against climate change.

Caltrans Director Tony Tavares stated that nearly $623 million of this allocation is sourced from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA), with an additional $295 million provided through Senate Bill (SB) 1, known as the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

Several projects have been approved under this initiative. These include a $15 million allocation for electric charging infrastructure to support electric buses within San Mateo County's SamTrans system. In Santa Clara County, $9.5 million will be directed towards new bike lanes, crosswalks, pedestrian push buttons, signal heads, and other safety improvements along an 8-mile stretch of SR-82.

Additionally, Sacramento will receive $6 million to assist in constructing a new light rail station serving Sacramento City College. Humboldt County is set to benefit from a $114,000 investment for building service bays required for maintaining a new fleet of fuel cell electric buses.

These projects are part of California's broader strategy to modernize its transportation network while promoting clean energy solutions and enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety.
