DOJ investigates officer-involved shooting in Richmond under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced that the California Department of Justice is conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Richmond, California. The incident, which took place on February 4, 2025, at approximately 8:45 p.m., resulted in the death of one individual and involved personnel from the Richmond Police Department.

The investigation follows Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), which mandates that the DOJ independently review such incidents. Upon completion of the investigation by DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team, findings will be submitted to DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for further review.
