Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis has declared February 6, 2025, as Ronald Reagan Day in California. The proclamation highlights President Reagan's journey from Illinois to becoming a prominent figure in California and eventually the President of the United States.
"Though born in Illinois, President Ronald Reagan was a Californian at heart," reads the proclamation. It acknowledges his career achievements and contributions, including his role in ending the Cold War and enacting immigration reform.
The proclamation also pays tribute to Reagan's resilience following an assassination attempt early in his presidency and recognizes his family's efforts in supporting Alzheimer's disease initiatives.
"NOW THEREFORE I, ELENI KOUNALAKIS, Acting Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim February 6, 2025, as 'Ronald Reagan Day,'" concludes the statement.
This declaration is attested by Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., Secretary of State.
