California Attorney General Rob Bonta, along with 11 other attorneys general, has issued a joint statement regarding their ongoing legal action against the Trump Administration. The lawsuit concerns the alleged illegal granting of access to Americans' private information to Elon Musk and members of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

The statement highlights that "Elon Musk and his team got into our nation’s central payment system in the Treasury Department," resulting in unauthorized access to sensitive personal data, including Social Security numbers and bank account information.

In response to this breach, the coalition filed a lawsuit aimed at halting further unauthorized access. "To protect our states’ residents, we filed a lawsuit to stop the madness," they stated. A court order was subsequently obtained to block Musk and DOGE from accessing personal data and mandate the destruction of any records acquired.

The coalition emphasizes that despite Musk's wealth, he is not above the law: "Elon Musk may be the richest man in the world, but the law is clear: he has no authority to access your private information."

Attorney General Bonta and his colleagues are now seeking a preliminary injunction to maintain restrictions on unauthorized data access through the Treasury's payment system. The attorneys general from New York, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Oregon have joined Bonta in this effort.
