Ami Bera, M.D., currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California's 6th district, has expressed concerns through a series of tweets regarding potential impacts on healthcare programs due to proposed budget cuts. Bera, who has been in office since 2013, emphasized the importance of these programs for his constituents and broader American society.

On March 18, 2025, Bera tweeted about the significance of Medi-Cal for his district: "Over 294,000 Medi-Cal recipients in #CA06 depend on this essential program for their health care, but the Republican budget plan puts their coverage at risk."

In another tweet posted on the same day, he highlighted the broader implications of potential cuts to Medicaid and Medi-Cal: "Medi-Cal and Medicaid provide care for nearly 80 million Americans, including newborns, working families and seniors in nursing homes. Cuts to this program would mean people lose access to the health care they need and face increased financial hardship." He reaffirmed his commitment to addressing these challenges.

On March 20, 2025, Bera shared insights from a meeting with Jessica Altman from Covered California: "I met yesterday with @CoveredCA Executive Director Jessica Altman to discuss the serious consequences of proposed federal funding cuts, including Republican-led efforts to cut $880 billion from Medicaid." He noted that such cuts could severely affect nearly 15 million Californians reliant on Medi-Cal.
