Marking the completion of a rigorous 26-week training program, 125 cadets have graduated to become California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers. Governor Gavin Newsom congratulated the new officers, who will be deployed across the state.

"As we congratulate the newest cohort of CHP officers, we commend their leadership in stepping up and serving communities across California. From combating crime to responding to crises like the LA fires, the men and women of the CHP represent the best of us," said Governor Newsom.

Cadets at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento receive extensive training in traffic enforcement, collision investigation, defensive tactics, firearms proficiency, and emergency vehicle operations. The program also covers legal responsibilities, communication skills, and ethical conduct to ensure that cadets are well-prepared for their roles.

Enhancing public safety is a priority for Governor Newsom. In November 2024, California met its multi-year recruitment goal of adding 1,000 new officers to the force. Since 2019, investments in law enforcement resources have increased significantly to support local governments in hiring more police officers and strengthening public safety measures.

In 2023, under California's Real Public Safety Plan, Governor Newsom announced a historic investment to combat organized retail crime. This included a 310% annual increase in proactive operations targeting such crimes and launching specialized operations statewide.
