Residents affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles County have until March 31 to apply for critical disaster assistance. The cleanup efforts following the Eaton and Palisades fires are progressing rapidly, with 475 crews working tirelessly to clear debris. So far, 1,300 parcels have been cleared, and 507 returned to the county by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Governor Gavin Newsom stated, "We are not slowing down until the job is done. California is dedicated to restoring our communities swiftly and safely after these fires."

The speed of this operation underscores the importance of applying for assistance from FEMA and SBA, as well as completing a Right-of-Entry (ROE) form for no-cost debris removal before the deadline.

Under Governor Newsom's direction, Cal OES collaborates with local, state, and federal partners to provide support to survivors. This effort has resulted in billions of dollars in aid distributed, including $24.2 million in Displacement Assistance and $21 million in Housing Assistance.

Eligible homeowners must complete an ROE form for government-assisted debris removal at no cost. This allows contractors to remove hazardous debris from private properties. Phase 2 cleanup is available for residential properties destroyed by the fires with structures over 120 square feet.

Property owners can choose between government-assisted or private contractor cleanup options. Insurance proceeds related to debris removal will be coordinated with government agencies if applicable.

FEMA offers grants for temporary housing and repairs through DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling their hotline. Additionally, SBA provides low-interest loans for businesses and homeowners via their website or customer service center.
