Governor Gavin Newsom announced the proclamation of March 30, 2025, as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day. The declaration, released on March 28, 2025, recognizes the sacrifices of Vietnam War veterans, acknowledging their service amidst a tumultuous period in history.

The proclamation honors over 58,000 U.S. service members who lost their lives, including 5,822 from California. It highlights the challenges Vietnam veterans faced upon returning home, noting that they did not receive the recognition they deserved.

"During a time of great turmoil, Vietnam veterans answered our country’s call throughout more than a decade of harrowing combat – leaving many with lifelong scars, both visible and invisible," the proclamation states. It calls for a recommitment to honoring veterans with proper support and respect, emphasizing California's dedication to ensuring veterans and their families receive due care and benefits.

Governor Newsom formally declared, "NOW THEREFORE I, GAVIN NEWSOM, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim March 30, 2025, as 'Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.'"

The document concludes with Newsom's signature and was attested by Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D.
