As Deltopia approaches, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department have issued important safety tips. This unsanctioned festival draws large crowds to Isla Vista, affecting both residents and first responders. "Safety is the number one priority," stated officials, emphasizing the danger of the cliffs along Isla Vista’s coastline, where falls and tragic consequences have occurred in past years. Staying behind fences and railings is strongly advised.
Officials reminded partygoers of the illegality of rooftop parties, noting that local ordinances allow for immediate law enforcement action if such events are discovered. Overcrowding on residential decks is another concern, as they are not generally designed to handle large groups, which can lead to structural collapses. Authorities will monitor this closely, with overcrowded areas evacuated and citations issued if necessary.
The Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department stressed the importance of making way for first responders in emergencies. Clear access is essential for them to provide assistance swiftly. Cooperation with emergency personnel is crucial for ensuring safety during Deltopia.
In cases of overdose, the Good Samaritan Law offers protection from liability if assistance is sought. This law is in place to encourage bystanders to act without hesitation in emergencies. The Restorative Justice Program, typically offering the dismissal of certain citations upon completion of class and community service, will be suspended during Deltopia. Consequently, all citations will be processed through the court, resulting in a permanent record for sustained violations.
Attendees are encouraged to stay informed about applicable laws and ordinances. An information sheet has been compiled by the Sheriff’s Office to aid in this effort.
Both the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department urge those attending Deltopia to prioritize safety, responsibility, and cooperation with law enforcement and emergency responders to ensure a memorable and safe event for everyone.
