California DOJ investigates San Joaquin County Sheriff's shooting under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced that the California Department of Justice is launching an investigation into an officer-involved shooting under the stipulations of Assembly Bill 1506. The shooting, which involved personnel from the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, resulted in the death of one individual. It occurred in Stockton, California, on April 7, 2025, at around 11:14 a.m.

The Department of Justice's California Police Shooting Investigation Team began its investigation after being notified by local authorities. According to the requirements of AB 1506, the investigation will be independently reviewed by the DOJ's Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division once it is completed. Community members with information related to the shooting are encouraged to report by calling (916) 210-2871.
