Representative Norma Torres expressed her concerns on the state of Social Security, outlining her critical perspective through a series of tweets on April 9 and 10, 2025. Currently serving in the U.S. Congress, representing California’s 35th district, Torres utilized Twitter as a platform to address the issues surrounding budget cuts and their impact on social services.

On April 9, 2025, Torres criticized the ongoing cuts to Social Security, stating, "What’s happening to Social Security is a disgrace. Trump and Musk’s DOGE cuts are gutting the agency—leaving seniors stranded, turned away, and missing the checks they’ve earned." She described these actions as sabotage rather than reform, promising not to let such measures prevail.

The following day, April 10, Torres highlighted the internal disagreements plaguing the Republican Party regarding their budget vote. She remarked, "Republicans pulled their budget vote tonight because they can’t even get their own party on the same page." She cautioned that this budget could potentially add trillions to the debt and viewed it as an attack on social services and working people.

Later on April 10, Torres depicted the passage of a budget bill by Republicans as detrimental to the American public. She expressed her disapproval, noting, "It’s appalling to watch Republicans cheer after passing a budget bill that will hurt EVERY American." These actions, according to Torres, represent a significant betrayal to their communities.

Additionally, Norma Torres has served in the U.S. Congress since 2015, previously contributing to the California State Assembly and Senate. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and educated at National Labor College, Torres resides in Pomona, California.
