City of Salinas issued the following announcement on Dec 2.
Every City in California is required to have a General Plan which guides the city’s future development. The General Plan “is a vision about how a community will grow, reflecting community priorities and values while shaping the future” (Governor’s Office of Planning and Research). Our General Plan Update will be a continuation of Visión Salinas, which initiated in 2017 to coordinate the public outreach and planning efforts in Salinas.
The General Plan is now required to have eight mandatory elements: Land Use, Circulation, Housing, Conservation, Noise, Open Space, Safety and Environmental Justice. The City of Salinas also has two optional elements: Community Design and Economic Development.
Community engagement for the General Plan Update is set to begin Spring 2021. Salinas residents, City staff, students, local organizations and agencies, and businesses will have many opportunities to become engaged in the process. COVID-19 has made traditional engagement challenging, but we will do our best to ensure all voices are included in the General Plan.
Which element are you most interested in? What are your ideas for the future of Salinas? Get involved and let’s create a vision together!
